Zorro (2022), la nueva ópera del compositor californiano Héctor Armienta, presenta una historia electrizante llena de romance, humor y suspenso. Ambientada a principios del siglo XIX en la ciudad de Los Ángeles, esta ópera, llena de duelos de espada y romances apasionados, sigue las aventuras de un hacendado del Nuevo Mundo que enmascara su verdadera identidad para convertirse en el Zorro, un audaz defensor de los oprimidos. La partitura de Armienta ha sido descrita como una fusión de Puccini e Hispanoamérica, creando un paisaje sonoro melódico vibrante y rico en texturas, con destacadas arias y dúos, y un drama de gran intensidad.
La ópera es bilingüe (cantada en inglés y español) y se presentará con supertítulos en ambos idiomas. Este evento marca el estreno de la obra en la Costa Este y forma parte de la celebración de Opera in Williamsburg por el 250º aniversario de la Declaración de Independencia.

The new American opera Zorro (2022) presents a thrilling new work filled with romance, humor, and suspense. Set in the early 1800s in el pueblo de Los Angeles, this opera follows the adventures of the New World Hispanic nobleman who hides his true identity behind a black mask to become Zorro, the dashing defender of the oppressed natives. The opera is filled with sword fights and passionate romance. Armienta’s score has been described as Puccini meets Mexico, with Latin musical influences, creating a melodic, vibrant, textured soundscape with sweeping arias, duets, and high-stakes drama.
The opera is bilingual, English and Spanish; it will be presented with English and Spanish supertitles. This is the East Coast premiere of the work, which is a part of Opera in Williamsburg’s celebration of the 250 anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
